What is Traditional Chinese Medicine ?

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a time-honored healthcare system that has been practiced for centuries in China. The ancient wisdom of TCM is rooted in the belief that the body is a complex system of interconnected parts that work together to maintain balance and health. TCM uses a wide range of gentle techniques, including acupuncture, herbal medicine, dietary counseling and soft tissue work to help restore the flow of qi in the body and promote healing.

Herbal medicine uses similar TCM principles as acupuncture to address patterns of imbalance and promote healing. The theory behind herbal therapy is that each herb has innate properties that affect your body in different ways, through the herb’s inherent actions, temperature, and the organ systems that it affects. Those properties are key in prescribing the right herbs to address your particular imbalance and symptoms. In most cases, herbs are combined into formulas in order to be most effective and fine-tuned to your individual needs.

Treatment Process

A TCM practitioner will conduct an intake to assess each unique pattern or patterns to determine appropriate treatment plan for healing conditions and maintaining balance. Treatment modalities including acupuncture and herbal medicine are often used together to optimize results.
